A new exit scam. The French Youtuber Crypto Gouv fled with the funds of his subscribers, and had the luxury of explaining to them how he had scammed them. Back on the case, and on the need to be careful in the ecosystem.
Crypto Gouv: a French crypto-influencer flees with the cash register
Baptized “ Crypto Govthe YouTube channel set out to explain cryptocurrency and blockchain to its subscribers. The goal is to retain a community, and to create trust. Little by little, the account collects money from followers, promising them, of course, substantial returns on investment. The sums invested would range from a few hundred euros several tens of thousands of eurosaccording to Jérémy Asta-Vola, the plaintiffs’ lawyer.
But on July 9, everything changed. The Crypto Gouv channel delivers a final publication, and reveals the deception. Provocative, man even mentions the penalty incurred for this type of scam, and taunts its subscribers. He would have left with a sum of between 3 and 4 million euros.
The victims gathered, and the Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation for fraud. According to Jérémy Asta-Vola, this case is unfortunately not isolated in France:
“There is a mass audience that is interested in these practices. Necessarily, some malicious people see it as an opportunity. This type of scam is on the increase»
