Platforms such as iDealwine, BitWine and WineChain are specialized in the marketing of wine online and more and more wine producers have embarked on the digital adventure through these dedicated platforms. Both increase awareness of their products that to unearth a larger clientele, entering the world of NFT is more than advantageous for producers of fine wines.
The precursor: the Magnum of Château Edmus
The NFT or nun fungible token is a non-interchangeable digital asset. Based on blockchain technology, NFT is a completely inviolable certificate of ownership. It is surely this criterion that seduced Laurent David, co-owner of Château Edmus (Saint-Emilion), when he put 10 numbered collector’s magnums up for sale in May 2022. It is a boon for every seasoned collector who can find collectible wines online. Through the purchase of an NFT, the collector has a digital certificate of ownership for his collectible which has become imperishable because it is virtual.
Darius Castle
Flavien Darius Pommier, owner of Château Darius in Saint-Emilion, has also embarked on digital property certificates via NFTs for his grand cru. Thus, in May 2022, he decided to sell images of their digital wine bottles. This decision follows the sale of the products of this newcomer on the BakerySwap site. After studying finance at Kings College London, this wine producer returned to France to take care of the family vineyard. Thus, he was able to combine the knowledge of his ancestors and his own to advance their wine business.
The Chateau Angelus
Still from a grand cru of Saint-Emilion, Château Angélus has also taken the initiative to integrate NFT certificates. To do this, the producers took the emblem of the domain which is the bell of Saint-Emilion. Thus, in July 2022, Château Angélus joins forces with Cult Wines for the sale of a NFT guaranteeing ownership of a barrel of Angelus 2020 (equivalent to 300 bottles) and a 3D animated illustration of the bell of the Château d’Angélus. It should be noted that Cult Wines is a British investment and wine collection management company. The sale of NFT thus contributed to strengthening the brand image of this producer of collectible wines.
To conclude, the entry of grands crus into the world of NFT strengthens their reputation and promotes the traceability of bottles. This innovation proves that NFTs are not just for art but adapt perfectly to the world of wines. Like champagne and cognac, wine now has a larger and more diverse customer base thanks to NFTs.
